Four key parameters should be focused on for selection: thickness, density, width and tensile strength. Thin PTFE tape is suitable for fine threads, while thickened high-density tape fits large-diameter high-pressure threads. Meanwhile, the wrapping method also affects sealing performance: wrap along the thread direction with a reasonable number of layers, and avoid over-wrapping which may cause thread cracking. PTFE, short for Polytetrafluoroethylene, has become the preferred material for pipe thread sealing thanks to its unique material properties.
