How to Choose the Right PTFE Thread Seal Tape for Different Scenarios?

Many purchasers are prone to pitfalls during product selection: one type of PTFE tape cannot fit all pipeline scenarios, and selecting the wrong specification may lead to leakage, breakage and other issues. So how to choose the proper PTFE tape for different application scenarios?

For civil water supply and drainage pipelines, conventional-density PTFE tape is sufficient to meet the sealing requirements for room-temperature clean water. Gas pipelines demand higher air tightness, so PTFE tape with high density and high elongation is required to prevent minor gas leakage. For chemical pipelines and oil pipelines, the PTFE tape needs superior chemical resistance, and products made of high-purity PTFE raw materials must be adopted.

Four key parameters should be focused on for selection: thickness, density, width and tensile strength. Thin PTFE tape is suitable for fine threads, while thickened high-density tape fits large-diameter high-pressure threads. Meanwhile, the wrapping method also affects sealing performance: wrap along the thread direction with a reasonable number of layers, and avoid over-wrapping which may cause thread cracking.

We can provide targeted selection recommendations based on customers' working conditions, media, temperature and pressure parameters. Customization of product specifications is also available to match different markets and application scenarios.
